Pudsey and Bramley fellrunner Rob Hope ended Rob Jebb's run of six straight wins to seize a stunning Grasmere Guides win over the last few yards.

Hope rounded off a brilliant downhill run after being 'nowhere near' his rival at the crag turn, by overtaking the Bingley Harrier, from Staveley, between the main road and the finishing line. It was a virtual re-run of Hope's only win here in 2002.

A big favourite at Grasmere, five-times winner and one-time record holder, Tommy Sedgwick earned the cheers of the crowd by running in the race to mark his sixtieth birthday earlier in the year.

He took a tumble in his stride and finished in a respectable time, accompanied over the line by his grand-daughter Sophie Marshall who'd won the U12s girls' race.

Bright sunshine made it a great day for spectators after last year's downpours, though there was no RAF Falcons' parachute display team, who were a late cancellation.
