The shortlisted photograph this month, of a highly contented sunbathing Herdwick, was taken by Richard Buller: “Setting out at sunrise to walk the Langdale Pikes, I came across this sheep enjoying the first warming rays of the early morning sun.”

The overall winner for 2022 will receive Opticron binoculars or a telescope of their choice, up to £350 in value. To enter our photography competition, email your high-resolution pictures of

Cumbrian landscapes and wildlife to editorial@cumbriamagazine.co.uk or post them to our usual address, marking the envelope ‘Cumbria Photography Competition’. Please note we are unable to return prints. We will choose and print one image each month.

Full competition rules can be found at dalesman.co.uk.

The competition is sponsored by Opticron, a family-owned company that for more than 50 years has supplied a range of binoculars, telescopes and associated accessories to people of all ages who are interested in observing wildlife.
